Eyelash Glue Guide (How To Make, Apply, Remove & Alternatives)

Eyelash Glue Guide (How To Make, Apply, Remove & Alternatives)

My rant against DIY eyelash glue

Before I start my rant that nobody cares about, I have to ask you a question, ‘Why would you even want to DIY lash glue?’

Lash glues were never expensive and still are affordable. Sure, you can make an eyelash glue that will stick but making a safe, irritating-free, secured, and harm-free removable DIY glue is super unlikely. So at the end of the day, these cheap DIYs cause more harm than serving the real purpose.

Also, the fact that every liquid substance needs proper preservation and PH in them. So eye products are quick to easily infect if not preserved or formulated the way they should be. You may have all the ingredients to DIY lash glue, but do you have PH testers and antimicrobial or antifungal testing lab tools with you? No right?

This is not a place to save money, honey! So don’t walk farther on this dangerous line trying to save some bucks and reinvent something as cheap as eyelash glue. That being said, here are some popular DIY recipes for eyelash glue I found while researching and my ratings for them. I’m feeling a little hypocritical at this point, not going to lie.

HOW TO MAKE EYELASH GLUE

METHOD 1

THINGS YOU NEED –

  1. False eyelashes.
  2. Non-toxic White Glue.
  3. Honey. (Raw/Organic)
  4. Water.
  5. Sugar.
  6. Mixing container.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW (MAKING PROCESS) –

1st STEP – Take the container and mix- half a tsp of sugar, a drop of that non-toxic Glue, a couple of drops of honey, and about two tablespoons of water.

2nd STEP – Mix really well till everything dissolves. You can modify these measurements if you’re not happy with the consistency. The Glue shouldn’t be too runny.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW (APPLICATION PROCESS) –

1st STEP – First, curl your eyelashes with your favorite eyelash curler and put on your mascara. You can go ahead and get done with your eye makeup, but remember that you may make a mess while wearing falsies with homemade Glue.

2nd STEP – Apply the Glue on the band of your fake lashes, and then wait for it to become slightly tacky.

3rd STEP – Now, please Hold the artificial lash in place for 30 seconds.

4th STEP – Repeat till you are satisfied with the application.

OUR RATINGS: 4 out of 5.

IMPORTANT NOTE – Organic ingredients make this one safer than most other DIYs. However, it does the sticking job so-so.

METHOD 2

THINGS YOU NEED –

  1. Non-toxic glue.
  2. Black eyeliner/ Kajal powder/ Black eyeshadow.
  3. A container.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW (MAKING PROCESS) – Just mix all the essentials in a container. The measurement is up to you because this glue can be preserved. So you don’t have to make new batches every time. The black eyeliner/ kajal powder will make the glue not so noticeable after drying as if you’re wearing eyeliner.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW (APPLICATION PROCESS) – Apply like you normally would with eyelash glue. This glue can irritate your eyes, making you feel like the glue is pulling on your skin after drying.

OUR RATINGS – 3.5 out of 5.

IMPORTANT NOTE – Keeps the falsies in place for a couple of hours. Not so safe. I had an itching sensation after a few minutes.

METHOD 3

THINGS YOU NEED –

  1. Vaseline.
  2. Water.
  3. Vitamin E capsule.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW (MAKING PROCESS) – Take half tsp of vaseline, one vitamin E capsule of oil, and a little bit of water, and give this mix a good stir. The consistency should be similar to syrup. This glue can be kept in any suitable container.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW (APPLICATION PROCESS) – The same as you would with normal glue. Avoid unwanted pulling or tugging on lashes. This mixture can be considered more like a nourishing substance than glue.

OUR RATINGS – 2 out of 5.

IMPORTANT NOTE – Not quite sure how this recipe is considered glue. It was a complete failure for me on every level.

HOW TO REMOVE EYELASH GLUE USING COMMERCIAL INGREDIENTS

Commercial ways can effectively remove the dreaded glue, all of it. But just to be on the safer side, you can go for natural and commercial ways alternatively.

HOW TO REMOVE EYELASH GLUE USING EYE MAKEUP REMOVER

1st STEP – First, take a spoolie saturated with makeup remover.

2nd STEP – Now go in like you’re applying mascara and just wiggle through the lashes. You’re not jamming the spoolie or trying to get the remover in your eye; just focus on coating your lashes the same way you would with mascara.

3rd STEP – Let the remover set for a minute, and whisk away everything with a makeup wipe. Again, not exaggerating, but if you look with a magnifying mirror, you won’t find a single dot of that glue.

HOW TO REMOVE EYELASH GLUE USING MICELLAR WATER

If the glue is water-soluble, then micellar water will work just fine. Water-based and penetrable glues are easily removed with micellar water and are less heavy on the lashes.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW –

1st STEP – Start with a micellar water-saturated Q tip or cotton ball. Avoid cotton pads, as it’s a little bit bigger to properly remove eyelash glues.

2nd STEP – After the lashes get properly soaked up, all the glue will come off easily. The whole process would require just a couple of minutes.

HOW TO REMOVE EYELASH GLUE USING EYELASH CONDITIONER

These conditioners are usually a mixture of oils and soothing agents. Applying an adequate amount of conditioner and wiping with a warm water-soaked cotton pad gets the work done.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW –

1st STEP – Apply an adequate amount of eyelash conditioner and wait for about 1-2 minutes.

2nd STEP – Wipe off your lashes properly with a warm water-soaked cotton pad.

HOW TO REMOVE EYELASH GLUE USING BABY LOTION

Dr. Sheilagh, a pediatric dermatologist, discouraged using a lot of popular branded baby lotions just because they have synthetic fragrances and irritating preservatives in them. So choose one without these products to maintain lash health. Besides this issue, baby lotion for removing lash glue is a thumbs up.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW –

1st STEP – Use cotton swabs or balls for baby lotion too. Take time and gently rub over your lashes.

2nd STEP – After you’re sure all the glue has come off, wipe off the excess lotion.

The first thing that comes to my mind is, Ponds cold cream with a green lid. It works very well if you smear some on and then let it sit for a while before removing it. You can also use a cleanser or water afterward or just sleep with the cream on.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW –

1st STEP – Smear a little cold cream with a Q tip on your lashes.

2nd STEP – Wipe off gently; glues would come off easily while doing so.

HOW TO REMOVE EYELASH GLUE WITHOUT REMOVER

Do the best job you can to remove your eye makeup before proceeding. However, don’t overuse natural products in the eye area! Methods of removing eyelash glue with natural products are all pretty much the same. All you need is a mascara wand and brush it through your lashes with the natural products mentioned below. Here are some natural glue removers mentioned below and the additional benefits they can give you.

2nd STEP – With a spoolie, brush through the lashes, and you’ll see the glue coming off. You can either wash off the oils or let it be.

HOW TO REMOVE EYELASH GLUE USING BABY OIL

2nd STEP – When the glue is soft enough, gently pull them off with the help of a spoolie. It’s up to you if you want to get rid of the oil by washing it off.

2nd STEP – Gently massage with your fingers to eliminate all those glues.

HOW TO REMOVE EYELASH GLUE USING VASELINE

Using vaseline on the lash line is pretty controversial as it is petroleum-based. Better to opt for oils to avoid complications. But vaseline surely can remove eyelash glue.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW –

1st STEP – Apply Vaseline with spoolie and leave it like that for up to 3-5 minutes.

2nd STEP – Start brushing off the glue with the spoolie.

3rd STEP – After cleaning, wipe off the excess Vaseline. Removing the Vaseline with a cleansing oil afterward will be better.

HOW TO REMOVE EYELASH GLUE USING MILK

Raw milk contains lactic acid, protein, and vitamins A, D, E, and K. All these Euphoria crazes made face rhinestones popular. However, eyelash glues are the most effective method to ensure they remain in place. And cleaning the glue with milk is like killing two birds with one stone because milk is a great toner for the skin.

STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW –

1st STEP – Use a generous amount of fresh milk to cover the adhesive. Apply it on your entire face if you like.

2nd STEP – After a couple of minutes, when the milk is still slightly wet on your skin, start rubbing gently in a circular motion. The glues would immediately come off, leaving you with fresh skin.

If you can’t get rid of the glue, try using the oil products mentioned above immediately.

ALTERNATIVES OF EYELASH GLUE

  • HOMEMADE EYELASH GLUE –

For emergency situations, you can rely on these glues. But try to opt for other safe options as mentioned below.

  • VOLUMIZING MASCARA & EYELINER –

Only volumizing Mascara and liner won’t work. This is because makeup artists use Mascara after applying falsies to blend with natural ones. So, just using Mascara & eyeliner will not do the job of Eyelash Glue. Likewise, eyeliner with adhesives can be used instead of glue.

  • EYELASH TINT –

Eyelash tints are suggested in many “eyelash glue-substitutes” articles, but I can’t see how a lash tint and lash glue can be interchanged. This product can’t stick falsies.

  • MAGNETIC EYELASHES –

The only substitute that won’t make you feel constantly worried about your falsies coming off. Some don’t even need magnetic eyeliner to make them stick. Just sandwiching the natural lashes with a pair of magnet-attached lashes eliminates all the hustle.

  • MAGNETIC EYELINER –

This eyeliner has magnet particles, so it can easily attract the magnets attached to it and keeps them in place. No glue is needed.

  • EYELASH EXTENSION –

A costly substitute but worth it. Though glue is also required here, a strong one lasts up to 6 weeks if you can maintain it properly. You won’t need to wear any falsies if you have extensions. But make sure you’re extra careful while showering with eyelash extensions and sleeping with eyelash extensions.

  • SELF-ADHESIVE EYELASHES –

Best for rookie lash wearers. And the most fun fact is you can readjust or reuse as many times as you want. But don’t expect them to not budge at all cause they will.

  • LIQUID EYELINER –

Not every liquid liner will hold fake lashes. You’ll need a self-adhesive liquid liner.

This product usually came in black, brown, and clear colors and changed the false lash game for many. Just like any other eyeliner, draw as you wish, put the falsies on and hold for 2-3 seconds. Works for every type and is smudge free. You need oil products to remove eyeliner.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAN NAIL GLUE BE USED AS AN EYELASH GLUE?

ANSWER: NO! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!?

It’s almost like super glue and has a high possibility that it would glue your natural ones together. And also, nail glues require Acetone for removal. Would you ever want a chemical like Acetone that dissolves acrylic and many other plastics near your eyes!? A wig glue is rather much better than nail glue.

CAN VASELINE BE USED AS AN EYELASH GLUE?

ANSWER: In the first place, it is simply not possible.

Why would even false eyelashes stick to an oily substance like Vaseline? You may use Vaseline for removing purposes but never for sticking false eyelashes.

CAN HAIR GEL BE USED AS EYELASH GLUE?

ANSWER: Well, hair gel is sticky, which hardens and dries up afterward. It does a good job of keeping hair in place and can do the same with eyelashes. But for false eyelashes, not guaranteed. It’s a quick fix and stops working quickly too.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Always remember that eyes are the only ones you’ll ever own, so be extra careful; what you put near them is hygienic and not poisonous. So instead of completely relying on harmful ways to attach lashes only to save money, opt for safer ways.
