Applying eyeliner is a must for people with pale complexions who always seem light-skinned and without makeup and have tired-looking eyes. Although it certainly makes you appear better, I can bet you must have wondered what was in it at least once in your life.
And, In order to avoid using chemicals and additives, you had definitely at least once in your life thought about making your own eyeliner. Isn’t it? Can you make it happen? I bet you can!

WHY SHOULD YOU USE HOME-MADE EYELINER
You might still need convincing but give it a try! Here are eight massive reasons for making your own eyeliner
- TO AVOID TOXINS –
In ancient Egypt, people used eyeliner that often had harmful amounts of lead. Today, some of the most popular eyeliner brands also have harmful amounts of lead.
Using DIY eyeliner, you can avoid parabens, D&C Black No. 2 (A pure carbon drug), and formaldehyde releaser found in many eyeliner brands.
- TO CUSTOMIZE EYELINER COLOR –
You don’t have to rely on the color schemes offered by cosmetics producers; you can make your own eyeliner to suit your tastes. For example, you can achieve the traditional black smoky eye look by using charcoal.
In contrast, a more natural-looking result can be achieved by using cocoa powder. If you want to try something different, you can use beetroot powder to create a reddish-pink line or arrowroot powder for a creamy white line.
- CRUELTY-FREE COSMETICS –
The unfortunate fact is that animal experimentation is still a reality for many well-known cosmetics businesses, despite some recent advances. Making your own vegan and cruelty-free ingredients will guarantee that no animals are subjected to brutal treatment while making your homemade mascara.
- SKIN-FRIENDLY OILS –
You can use oils like coconut oil, almond oil, avocado oil, or grapeseed oil as the base of your eyeliner. In that case, your eyeliner will go on more smoothly if you use an oil that is suitable for your skin type, and your skin will definitely benefit from the added moisture.
- TO MAKE EYELINER WATERPROOF –Â
With the help of beeswax, you can easily prevent the dreaded post-swim blurring on your homemade eyeliner. Even after getting caught in an unexpected downpour, your perfectly placed eyeliner will remain intact because of beeswax’s inherent ability to resist water.
- AFFORDABLE –
Beauty products, even eyeliner from the drugstore, may cost you $10 per pen. However, you’ll only need a tiny amount of versatile components for these homemade eyeliner recipes, which you probably already have at home. Without a doubt, making your own is more affordable.
- TO REDUCE WASTE –
Cosmetics are products that people use to make themselves look better. They’re available practically anywhere and come in a wide variety of sizes. Unfortunately, their single-use containers, caps, and applicators are another major drawback.
A lot of the plastic we use gets thrown away and ends up in the environment. Some of it is carried by the wind and ends up in the ocean, where it harms sea life and causes water pollution. Even though it harms the ecosystem, some people dispose of their trash by dumping plastic into the ocean. Would you believe it! Around 8 million metric tons of plastic waste annually gets dumped in the sea.
Making your own eyeliner and keeping it in a reusable container can help you avoid unnecessary disposables, even if some businesses set the bar for sustainable packaging and zero waste.
- EASY APPLICATION –Â
If you make your own eyeliner, you can have any color or type you want instead of being limited to a dull eyeliner pencil or cheap applicator. Using a small, angled brush that you already own and love makes it easy to glide creamy DIY eyeliner on smoothly. Finally, clean up your brushes after using them, as they can contain unwanted oils and bacteria if you don’t.
ARE DIY EYELINERS SAFE TO USE
Homemade products are always safe to use. DIY products are safer since they do not include chemicals or toxic components that might hurt your skin. This technique only contains natural ingredients.
However, one thing to remember is that things made at home do not last long. Because all herbal goods are used in this procedure, they will not have the 2–3-year expiry date that drugstore products do. So making a small quantity and finishing it within a month is the best you can hope for.
HOW TO MAKE AN EYELINER FROM EYESHADOW?
There is always a feminine urge to try out colorful looks. Although nothing can beat the intensity of black liner, colorful and bright ones may give your eyes more drama and definition.
These bright colors will always help you stay current with fashion trends. However, it is only sometimes possible to own every shade of eyeliner or kajal on the market. Finding a bunch of shades and buying them will be costly.
Instead, you can make your eyeshadow into eyeliner to make it hassle-free and affordable.
THINGS YOU NEED –
- A small empty container to store the product.
- Loose pigment or eyeshadow in any color.
- Water.
- Eyeliner brush.
- Primer.
- Cotton swab.
STEPS YOU NEED TO FOLLOW –
1st STEP – Wash and disinfect your hands. Next, choose your desired eyeshadow. It must be in powder form. Before applying eyeliner, check the expiry date of the product.
EXPERT TIP – Choose powder eye colors that contain shimmer or glitter if you want to create a shimmering or satiny eyeliner. Choose matte-finish powder eyeshadows if you want your eyeliner to have a matte look.
2nd STEP – First, use a clean cotton swab to gently scrape the eye makeup, then pour the loose powder into a little container. Before using, make sure to thoroughly clean and disinfect the container to eliminate any potential for bacterial growth. Disinfecting containers is easy. Use dishwashing liquid, liquid soap, or alcohol spray to clean the container.
3rd STEP – Now add a few drops of water to the powder eyeshadow, which will become more liquid-like. If you have reviving eye drops, you may use those in place of water when creating eyeliner.
4th STEP – Using a sharp, thin eyeliner brush, blend the powder well to create the consistency of a thin liquid liner. Next, add a few drops of water to the mixture and stir to ensure it doesn’t get too runny. Then, to avoid lumps of product, thoroughly combine the powdered eye makeup with the water for at least two minutes.
5th STEP – Add minimal face or eye primer to this combination. This isn’t required, but it will make your eyeliner last much longer, so I highly recommend it. Additionally, it will prevent any creasing or shifting.
6th STEP – Stir the contents for another 30 minutes or until the primer dissolves, and the eyeliner combines well. Close the lid of the container tightly and securely and store it. This eyeliner will keep working for a very long period. This will keep the quality even after a few days of storage.
Due to the primer I used, this eyeliner worked beautifully and stayed on me for around 4 hours. This eyeliner’s shelf life will coincide with that of the eyeshadow. Once you have mastered the art of DIY eyeliner makeup, you will have access to nearly unlimited colors of liners.
CAUTION: Use only modest amounts of eyeshadow products while creating eyeliner for the first time in order to prevent waste.
